Pre-Trip

So many things to do….! Packing up and closing out everything here is a bit more complex than I originally thought. Since I won’t be coming back, I need to get all my papers and things organized. I will miss having everything I use close, within running distance. Yet, I still live in an area with open space and wildlife.

I have decided to video some of my trip and got a GoPro 10….! Really excited about using that. I have been planning on getting one anyway. So, I will take pictures, video and write along the way. You can have live video of Circe and me getting kicked out our doggy hotel from her 3/4 am crying….!

A whole other element is that I have to map out a route and one with pet hotels all along the way.

I found an app (there is an app for everything!), Roadtrippers, it helped to map out my route. I also found a pet travel website (one of those for everything too!) 😉 where I could locate pet hotels along my route. I have mapped out several options. I am not sure how long each day Circe will be able to handle it, so I made some options to be flexible. There are not pet hotels everywhere so I have to have clear options unless I want to sleep in the car. That sounds like fun with a crazed dog who hates being in the car….. 😮

So, this is my tentative route. I actually planned it out when I thought I had a home to go to, but that didn’t work out…..But, we are still going to the same state, so I can be flexible on the end point. As you can probably see, there a couple of really long stretches on the map. The pet hotels availability got thin in some states. I also didn’t want to just travel a couple hours each day. It would take me forever to get across the country. I may have to stretch it out though as I will probably be working the whole way across.

Originally, I thought I would see some sights as I went across, but the route I am taking misses everything interesting. It is a good thing I have driven across the country many times on other more interesting routes. I guess this is for the best as Circe probably wouldn’t enjoy spending extra time in the car. If I thought I wouldn’t lose what little of my sanity I have left, I would get another puddy as a traveling companion for Circe.

Little by little I am making forward progress…..even though it is a bit like crashing into the future without a clear plan.

Update
June 28, 2022

Ok, we are down to 30 days and a wake up! The date is set to leave on August 1, 2022.

Pretty much most of the craziness of getting things organized and getting a place to land has been done. Now I have to finish packing and taking care of cancelling and closing things down here.

I did have a glitch with the car….what else is new ……

Subaru has a tow hitch for the hybrid. Just one glitch, you can’t tow anything that has weight???! Originally, I was going to tow a trailer to put some things in I wanted to move myself. Since I cannot do this, I have to install a luggage rack and Thule coffin to carry extra stuff. There isn’t any cargo space in the back of the car so I have no choice. Really poor design on Subaru’s part. I asked the guy at the dealership why they added a tow hitch when you can’t tow anything and he didn’t have an answer either.

So, the next time I post will be on the day I leave, unless something monumental happens, which I am not ruling out.
