Circe didn’t handle all the jostling of showing the house and getting it ready. We had multiple rides in the car and a couple of days out visiting while people were browsing about the home. All the stress just finally got to the poor pup. She hurt her leg, scratched her head open and has an eye infection. The trip to the vet was another ordeal. Circe literally cried and whined the whole time she was in the waiting room. Vet techs kept coming in to tell me the vet would be in soon. I think they were just really checking in to make sure I wasn’t beating her or something the way she was carrying on.

The vet didn’t give me a cone or anything, so I tried a headband to keep her from scratching her sore. This worked the first day, mostly because they gave me pain meds and she slept the first day. The second day I had to get a cone as she had scratched her head open again. The headband just couldn’t stand up to the fury of an itchy dog. I chose a pretty blue cone and it is funny because it makes her look like a morning glory flower. You can see how thrilled she is to have this on…..hahahaha.
Being a rescue dog comes with certain picadillos. One of these is that every time we go into a medical office, she thinks she is getting surgery or that I am going to abandon her at the shelter. Circe is just a sweet pup and, of course, all the techs ohhh’d and aww’d over her, gave her cheese treats and lots of pets and kisses. She loves the vet, in fact, I think she would happily abandon me for a new home with her. I will miss my vet, she is the best! Finding a good vet is like finding a good doctor, takes some time to find the right fit.
The whole car thing is just beyond her. I had hoped she would at least get used to it, but it seems she is dug in and hates the car. So, it is tranquilizer cocktail for her on the trip. At least for the first couple of days. We will see after that. This is a 3,000 mile car ride with an unhappy pup, so we will just have to take it one day at a time.
