It seemed as if the dessert went on forever, Nevada never ending.
I did eventually get to the Utah border. It is funny how the landscape changes sometimes gradually and sometimes all at once. I looked off to my right and saw a red bluff and not to long after there was this long flat area that was white as borax. It was the Great Salt Lake. Some parts had water and some parts were dry with big chunks of salt.
The highway just went on and on straight and endless. I guess that is why the Utah highway authority decided to put signs at regular intervals saying hypnotic driving causes accidents. They said something about drowsy driving and you keep reading these as you drive causing a sort of hypnotic suggestion. Yes, I started to get drowsy….The first rest stop I came to I drove on in. To my surprise I found a Chargepoint charging station and it was free! It was the first charging station I found so far on my trip. It was just odd that in the middle of nowhere there was a charging station. Of course, I took this as an omen….a good one.

Of course, I pulled in and plugged in! It was quite beautiful out there in the vast distances and rocky hills. There was a pathway leading up the hill and I took Circe part way up. I stopped when I felt something sharp on my foot and saw we were walking among a pathway of fire ant mounds. We made a quick get away down the hill stopping to sit in the shade and slurp some water.

Next stop, Best Western Utah….Originally, this was where I planned to be on day one, but travel should be flexible. My neighbors turned out to be from the Peninsula region of California. They were a very nice couple who happened to have a beautiful border collie. If you are reading this, good luck to you and it was nice meeting you.
