Just the strangest thing, I was sitting on the couch and I kept hearing the weirdest sound. I look on my back porch and there is this squirrel screaming, just sitting on the rail shrieking at top volume. It just stayed there screaming and shaking its tail for the longest time. I immediately had two simultaneous emotions…..I was a bit freaked at this obviously unbalanced squirrel on my deck and I also chuckled as I totally knew how it felt. In fact, I wanted to go out and do some shrieking myself. This is how my world has been evolving lately. Seems appropriate some how.
So I did a search and found this….”Screaming by a squirrel is a sign of danger and is often accompanied by a kukker. Usually, this alarm call is directed at other squirrels or predators within close range. The kukking, however, may be hard to hear. It is usually a series of short shrieks, and often occurs in rapid succession. While this can seem alarming to humans, kukking sounds are hardly audible.
So, this is a thing!!? My take away is “sign of danger” and “this can seem alarming to humans!” Hahahahaha…. you think?!
Hopefully, this is not meant as a harbinger of things to come……
Ok, remember this place…..I am thinking it is back in October/November? Well, I am moving to a new home and it is down this road. Funny that I traveled down here before. It is a long, long way down this road. I will have pictures and videos of the new homestead soon.
Here we go again……moving to another rental. This was not a planned change, but there you go. Since, I have moved to Byrd Mill I have been engaged in the back and forth of an unstable living condition. This has made making progress on other things impossible. Currently, I am just taking things one at a time.
I just got the winter “Parabola” and the theme is …. transformation. How appropriate for me. Actually, there are some nuggets in there that have helped me to reframe the current chaos.
OMG! It is snowing…..! It is February 1st!
It is snowing again! This is the second day in a row! It is supposed to snow till 10 am this morning. It is pretty heavy, but it isn’t laying on the ground? It is supposed to warm to the 40°s later so it probably won’t stay on the ground. Of course, this is precisely timed with my moving……It is pretty though.
The squirrel was shrieking again when I got home yesterday…..kind of creeps me out.
Circe has anxiously chewed her chicken to a mere husk flapping around the floor. She is not aware she has a new orthopedic, coolmax puddy couch complete with fresh chicken awaiting her at the new abode.
Yup, lost the bottom of my boot whilst hefting boxes back and forth…. I am moving as much as I can solo. Actually, I am surprised at how much I have been able to move on my own. My back is screaming arguments about all this, but I should be able to make a good dent. I did get movers finally scheduled. I was getting a bit worried about that. I have a ton of things to arrange, mail, address changes, P.O. Box, internet (which is proving to be a challenge in the new remote location), electric…..blah, blah, blah. Hence, I will post this and catch up with you on the other side.
A last note, this victory dinner has been repeated as my cupboard is bare now…….It has been a bit weird just eating up what I have in the fridge. It has made for some strange meals. Probably, not the most healthful, but I have actually plowed through the fridge and cupboards with abandon.

I have also discovered that I buy soup all the time. My soup stores surprised me as I don’t eat much out of can. I am thinking it is like a nervous tic. It reminds me of that movie Conspiracy Theory where Mel Gibson has to buy “The Catcher in the Rye” every time he goes by a bookstore. I had so much soup that I had to box it and move it with me. I will have to curb this habit.
