Whew! Finally all moved in and getting settled in the new place. It was a quick and painful move. I actually like the new house. It is much bigger, has a nice size kitchen, wonderful walk-in closet, mud room, fire place and is well insulated. Pretty much everything was challenging, but I got it done. I spent the whole week moving as much as I could to save some dough. I actually moved almost two rooms of boxes and some furniture. It is amazing what you can do with creative packing.
I was hoping the movers could do the rest in one load. I hired a company that was supposed to be professional. When I saw the U-haul van pull up, I knew they were using student movers. They were nice guys, but not movers. A couple of college students on the wrestling team. They took fooooorever to load the truck! I took off to get to the new home and halfway there I got a call from the moving company. The truck was stuck and could I go back and help.

Ok, so I flipped around and headed back. When I got there, the boys were just sitting in the cab. Efforts to free the bloated vehicle did pan out. Next step was AAA, which said it would be two hours at least. Of course, all I could do was freak out on the phone at the poor dispatcher. It was late afternoon and we were two hours from dusk. Next step, the neighbor! I don’t know if you remember Pap, but I wandered across the road and down the long drive to his place. Pap’s son-in-law was there and he said he could get it done. He just had to get his truck and strap. I wandered back across the road.
While we were waiting for the neighbor, surprise surprise, AAA shows up with a large rig with a winch. The driver takes one look and says his truck isn’t big enough to pull out the moving van. I couldn’t convince him to give it a try so I bid him good day. My experiences with AAA haven’t been the best in Virginia.
When the neighbor got back he hooked up the van with a chain and after a few tries….the van pulled free! Amazing! Just shows what a good ole boy with a big truck can do. I swear, people just can’t work the problem. You would think a moving company would have some options for when things go wrong. It is tiring solving everyone’s problems all the time!
We got one load that night and the children bailed on me. The owner of the company came the next day and moved the last load. It was surprising how fast they got it done. Everything was loaded and moved in two hours including travel time!
Well, that is over!

I got another hair cut, trim really. This gave me another chance to hit Organic Crunch. I love this place. It is a bit pricey, but the food is great. This bowl was yummy. It is quinoa, chickpeas, black beans, shredded organic cheddar, avocado with a chipotle sauce.

I found this strip on the wall next to the oven. How cool is this!

The new place is at the lake. I did find the lake on my first run here also… I must say it is a huge lake, seems to go on forever. I drove for 45 minutes the other day and kept going over the lake! It is a state park and …”it is one of the largest freshwater inland reservoirs in Virginia.” Bet there are some good fish in there.

NEW RUN ROUTE….
Here is part of my new run area. I only got about three miles today and this is the best part of the run….

Here is the forever train……. I have to cross several tracks to get home and you never know if you will get caught in it.

Other items on the list are I finally got to Whole Foods today. OMG, real avocados!!! This is the biggest store I have seen. It is like a Costco. The meats, fruits and veggies are just amazing. Of course, I over bought and binged on fruits and veggies when I got home. I will have to shop with a bit more casting in the future, but wow, nice to see some fresh fruits and veggies. Also, I got some pickberries….yummy. They are sweet and look like white strawberries.

Wrapping up….
I am 30 minutes farther out and there is nothing close. Everything is an hour away, except Fredericksburg, which is about 45 minutes from here. There is almost no internet service out here at all. I am still trying to work that out. I have sketchy service and it is painfully slow. Dial up would be an improvement to this. I can only use one item at a time and watching TV is almost non-existent. I am looking for a booster for the service I have. I will figure it out…. Living out here you have to order absolutely everything online. There are not any stores close at all.
It is pretty and I have woods behind me. However, I have a creepy neighbor in front. Unfortunately, I am tucked away down a skinny gravely road as my only access and the neighbor at the end is not very neighborly. He is a California transplant, figures. I am not tripping on it as I am only here temporarily for a year. I will have to work out ways to ignore and avoid him.
Circe was panicked and quivering the first few days, but she has since grown to love the extra space and plays all the time now. She has adapted and seems happier here. Oh, Circe has a couple of new friends….cats! I don’t see any cats during the days. Everyone, absolutely everyone here has big dogs–barkers, howlers, bayers and snarlers. So, I was surprised to see the cats wandering about in the night.
It has been a long couple of weeks and it is cold and raining. I hustled in some logs and started my first fire in the new home. It feels good!
