May at the Lake

Well, spring is here and people are milling about enjoying the fine weather. While in Culpeper, I saw groups of people partying and barbecuing on lawns and in parks. Anytime there is a beautiful sunny day, it cause for celebration. I was on my way to the gym and saw this in the parking lot….

I say we make this into a quiz…..Yes, the owner of this fine vehicle was in the gym with me. I tried to be inconspicuous, but that didn’t work. I truly wish I could have gotten a front shot, but alas…..Guess which one of these guys belongs to the ballsy horn truck. Is is the scarf dude or Mr. orange shorts? You will have to listen to the podcast that goes with this post to find out the answer. The button is at the top of the page.

I truly do not know why someone would want to drive around in this vehicle? Yes, it is a Honda Element…..hahahaha. This gives you a peek into the variety of the people hanging out at Gold’s Gym. 😉

JAZZ FESTIVAL!

Quel Surprise! I got a newspaper in my box on Friday. I didn’t even know they had a paper here. “The Central Virginian” Covers all of Louisa and I guess outlying areas. I love Jazz and saw on the front page a story about the annual Jazz Fest at a local lake brewery. Saturday was the day the magic was supposed to happen, so more of an ‘Afternoon’ than a ‘Fest.’ I have been here for four months (Wow, how time flies!) and this is the first newspaper I had seen. It was a for a former tenant, too! Makes one curious about their publication schedule.

I hoofed it on over to Cooling Pond Brewery on Saturday. I had breakfast and figured I would get a snack there. After arriving and wandering about, I went into the brewery. I didn’t see a band so I asked. According to Lori (Proprietor and Beer Maid), the fest was called due to rain. Only it wasn’t raining. It was supposed to rain so the musicians decided not to play. That was unfortunate as it was a lovely day. Warm, but partly cloudy so so had some cover from the sun.

The Pond has a nice selection of beers. I ordered an Irish Stout that was creamy and lush. I grabbed some nuts and my beer and toured around. The grounds are beautiful for concerts. I hope to get over there when they get a band playing. They have a wonderful grassy area in front of the stage, just perfect for lawn chairs and towels. There is a covered patio with picnic benches. Quite a few people were there and more were coming in looking for Jazz. A local named Alice gave me the scoop on my neighborhood and band. They were at the restaurant up the road. I swing on over there, but the restaurant wasn’t open yet and the band wasn’t playing for a couple of hours. I knew I wouldn’t make it that long so I left for home.

I did grab a few Mudd’s Irish Stout for the road….

Quick switch up here…. I wanted to include more lake activities in this post, but the calamity that is my rental is becoming a time-consuming effort. From arguing that the shed that is on the property and the owner should replace the ancient tarp that the last storm tore off to dealing with dark brown iron water, I am spent. One would assume that since I am responsible for lawn care maintaining the shed where the lawn tools would be kept would follow. My landlord seems to be of the opinion that he should not be responsible for the care and maintenance of his property. The leasing agent is a joy also. Ashley is always mentioning the previous tenants didn’t have an issue. I guess that is supposed to make me feel, I don’t know, guilty?! This was the same story with the fridge that didn’t cool. Even though the repair dude said the compressor was broke. This was the first week I moved into the house. It should have been an omen. The owner did replace the unit, but it took some time for him to figure it out. What he had to figure out one wonders…. I did get a totally minimalist refrigerator, which is fine by me as long as it keeps my milk cold. I don’t think you find a cheaper model than this. LOL

Welcome to Lake Anna
