July

I thought I would give you some sounds of summer to start out this topic.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER

July is month 12 for me here. It is hard to believe I have been here for a year now!!! I am still working on getting things settled. I do hope to be a bit more in place by January 2024. Weird how I just moved into next year. The California bureaucracy and time wasting is just unbelievable. Things are much more efficient here so eventually I will shed the old and start building in the new…..

I was meandering the other day, daydreaming really, and thought about how much changed during Covid. We are pretty much back to normal here, but the effects of the change are still lingering. What really happened there, I don’t know if it will ever be clear. People staying home shouldn’t have caused such a catastrophe of effects. At least to my way of thinking.

Life has become too complicated and controlled by the corporations, so I am on a simplify track. Spending more time enjoying my life is a big push for me now. I read more, watch less TV, exercise more and cook from scratch while listening to music and sipping on wine. I do feel less stressed and Circe is getting way more attention, which is making her more cheerful too!

I am more focused on my daily life and events going on all around me. It seems I am on an animal preserve with all the known wildlife crossing through or hanging out on my property. I do want to talk about my ongoing bunny problem. Beginning of spring it started. I saw a bunny, Circe saw the bunny and Circe proceeded to literally drag me around the yard. I would like to say that I was in more control later, but truth is it has happened more than once, twice…..! Scrapped knees, pulled shoulder, fire ant bites….. and now I am alert when out with Circe.

The bunnies have multiplied and are everywhere!!! One morning I got up and there were over 12 of them in the front. There are more than that as they are everywhere on the property. I think they are plotting against me….. I have chased them with not a big response. I now run after them with my taser in my hand. That is a visual……. The damn thing is they are not afraid of me. I yell, wave my arms, chase them, buzz the air with the taser and still they just move off enough out of my reach. The neighbor thinks I am nuts, I am sure. Every morning I do a bunny check before I take Circe out. At least this clears them for a moment. They come back, but I can have a few moments where Circe isn’t going predator on me.

Bunnies are incredibly cute. They run around and jump over each other and play, at least I think they are playing. They could be doing the mating dance? My cousin says they breed every 28 days, so you can imagine the bunny possibilities. There are bunny spotters now. One sits and stares at the front and one sits at the side of the house and just stares….. I know they are plotting something out there! They are not even afraid of me. They just move off a bit when I chase them. The other day the bunny didn’t even run, it just sat there and ignored me….! I have video.

Bunny Madness
Bunny run…..

OTHER CRITTERS…..

There are new creatures in the yard. I went to pick up what I thought was some garbage that had blown into the yard and discovered it had a head with a flicking tongue….EEEK! It is possibly a black rat snake or a black rattler, unsure but both are common here.

A very dynamic turtle/tortoise is roaming about the property. This is not the first time or first place I have seen him. He is a turtle, but unsure if he be a tortoise, water creature. There is the creek…..

The deer crack me up…I get them all the time on the cams, but this one looks like it is peering at the camera and telling the other deer that there is a camera and to go the other way. I think they were casing the place hahahahahaha…….

Quick….go back!

Yesterday I saw a huge fox or small coyote sauntering around. Not sure if coyotes are in this area?

And now for something completely different…..

This is a bit of a segue, but I found this old video of a one-lane, gravel-road highway. It is really a state road. State roads are distinguished by three numbers. State roads are not always that great or maintained, as you will see. This is a real highway even though it looks like a small driveway…. When I first turned down this road, I thought my nav system had misread or needed an update, but this is the road that got me to the two lane “paved” highway I needed to get to. While driving here I did meet another driver going the other direction. We found a way to move over and squeeze by each other….

State Road 640 or something like that…..

The above paragraph is an AI created piece. It is something new with WordPress. How weird?! I wanted to keep it in as it in some small tangential way applies……..! I happen to like the part about Circe’s sorcery, too.

Is that a bunny..?

You probably noticed a new harness and yes, that is a handle. I think all dogs should have handles….Circe is now 100 lbs of puppy fun! I have to start cutting back on her treats. Speaking of puddy food, why is it that Circe turns her nose up at expensive and healthy food, but she will run to eat deer or rabbit poop outside????!!! When she first came home from the shelter, she ran to the food bowl with kibble and inhaled the food. She used to get up in the mornings and run to the food bowl like it was a magic bowl. Now, she just looks to see what is on the menu before walking away. I gave her a treat the other day and she threw it on the floor and looked up at me like “what else you got?!”

Spoiled Pup

This post is a bit of a jumble, but so is my life right now. Wishing everyone warm days, cool nights and lots of good summer fun.
