THE LIBRARY

First Steps….

I needed to start with the library as I had a boat load of boxes filled with books and things I needed to move and unpack and I couldn’t do that till I did a quick remodel of the library (or what was to be the library). Once I get the bookshelves full, I do not want to have to move them!

I originally wanted to put wainscoting in the room, but I don’t have a chop saw or the tools to cut and mount baseboard and beadboard. So, I decided to do a sort of paint wainscoting….lol. I didn’t realize at that moment just how much prep time there is in this…..! It took a bit to tape it all up and you absolutely have to measure everything for it to look proper.

One thing about this house and this room — the previous owners painted all the walls in glossy paint!!!??? What is up with that! Also, they painted the trim and partially the door with flat paint? There were carpet nails and wood edgers all over the place, they ripped up the carpet and left all the pointy stuff. The room was a nightmare of dirt and weird design decisions. Don’t even get me started on the window seals….never cleaned appears. Black grime all over and dirty walls. I thought back and realized my house in CA was in a similar rundown state when I purchased it.

This is one side of the room before taping. I had to do the room in two stages. All the stuff in there I couldn’t put anywhere else. So, I did one side and then moved everything to the other side.

Just a few looks at the room before…

I used Origami White as the base coat on the wall…

Next went on the stripes….

I finished the one side and then moved everything so I could repeat the prodcedure with the other side of the room. Tedious to say the least. The stripes are pewter gray. I was going with a white, gray and black theme…..It was amazing how much better the room looked with just the white paint. I also pulled up all the carpet tacks, staples and wood edging for the carpet. Not much I could do for this floor other than clean it. I plan to put another floor over it later. At this point, I need to get everything out and in place so I can find things I need and move on to refinishing the office.

I put down a throw rug, got some curtains, curtain holders, floor vents, switch plates, doorknobs and other various things I needed to finish up the room.

And voila…..a semi finished room!

I have been waiting to get a full 360 of this room before posting this, but I have all the things from the spare bedroom in here now and it is just a mess. This is the first room I did to get the boxes of books and things I needed up and out of the way.

On to the next job…..

August 2025 Update….🐇

There is still the closet and door to deal with, but this is a good almost done picture set. It is clean anyway…… 🐇

I also have a magic garden theme going on. You can see the side gate from the window seat.
