A Partial Remodel on the Kitchen
The kitchen has a little nook area with a scenic view. When I moved in it was horrid with holes, drafts, floor heaters and shiny paint. The previous owners, for some strange reason, painted all the walls and ceilings with semi gloss and gloss paint. Some of the trim had flat paint and just partial paint. Some of the trim was just stripped off and missing also. So, it was a mixed bag.
One of the little annoying things Mr. Tibbets had a penchant for was taking off the cover plates off all wall meters. So, the thermostats had no covers. The doorbell had no cover. I did request these all to be put back on as part of the sale, but my real estate agent wasn’t very good. Nothing I had put on the list was done. However, I hired an electrician to remove the heater vents and take off all the useless meters. What a big change! Huge improvement immediately!!!
🔨 Before the remodel….🪜

In the beginning….
Before

After I ripped out the heater vents, I had to fix some holes and put down baseboards. During all this I found they had not caulked or sealed anything. One of the most time consuming things was filling the spaces between the planks. This took at least a week because I had to fill all the walls also. I think I have carpal hand now from all the caulking.

I am remodeling the house in the art deco tradition. I removed the scary 1970’s sconces and found some stained glass ones that fit the era perfectly.

I choose a mediterranean blue as the accent wall. I picked the color from the rug I found for the floor. I designed all the colors from this rug.

Painting, caulking, sealing and laying baseboard….

I painted the other walls Grecian white and used a flat paint. I chose Swiss flour for the color for the shades in the big window and the mediterranean blue for all the other shades. The shades are top down/bottom up style so I can adjust for the sun.
