Been a bit since I have put up a post. Actually, four are in the queue and will be going up this month. I have had so many crazy things going on with both Circe and moi. I totally bypassed posting in spring. It was beautiful and busy.

Cicada Invasion
Brood XIV (14) cicadas appeared suddenly one morning. I had just mentioned to my cousin that I wondered why we didn’t have any cicadas this year. Boom!!! They were everywhere! I woke with my fence covered. It took a bit for them to start to sing in my side of the mountain. Evidently, they like the sun. I happen to be on the shady side of the mountain. Did not matter as they sounded like a freight train even from afar. They did start singing on my side after a couple of weeks.

They appeared on my fence one morning and were a menace on my patio for weeks. My day soon became sweeping off hundreds of dead cicadas several times daily. They just covered the whole area. They were flying in the air all around you. Circe was in heaven, she likes a good bug. She was eating them off the patio and chasing them in the air. She even started barking at them…. 😂 I love the cicada song, so it was wonderful to see them. I was in the minority in this love of the cicada music. It ended as quick as it started.

I made some pots for the house. I put one on my upstairs patio.

Gym
I brought half of the gym with me, but I needed a couple of things to complete my home gym. I got a great deal on a rack and lat machine so 500 lbs of boxed metal was dropped on my driveway. It took a bit to put together, but it went up easily enough. I needed to get the lawn mower and other garden implements of destruction out of the space to actually have enough room for everything, This lead to getting a shed and having to build that. That was an experience ….. Also, I got a great deal on a row machine on Facebook. Who would have believed. I had to drive to Tennessee, but I needed a Costco run anyway.

The shed was such a disaster time wise. You had to peel off this shrink-wrap that was melded to the metal of the shed. It took a whole week just to get the damn stuff off the base pieces. I ended up peeling only half of the walls and leaving the rest. It took me a month to get that far! I figured it didn’t show so I needed my shed now!
It turned out nice in the end. Now I can just whip the mower out and get a quick mow in. I frequently mow at 9:00 pm when it is cool. It is still light and the solar lights start coming on towards the end. Circe is fond of sitting in the middle of the lawn while I mow. She just loves a fresh mowed lawn….

I was so excited that I actually got this finished and how nice it was to have my garden tools close and easily accessible. That humming you hear in the background…yup, cicadas.

Warm Lights in the Evening…

It is so nice to come home and see the warmth of the solar lights. It feels inviting and makes the back feel a little like a fairy garden. I do have more lights to get on the house and lawn area.

FOOD
Oh my, I have been looking for healthy new dishes. The whole bowl foods is interesting and I have made some really tasty dinners. I also discovered asparagus, cheese, prosciutto in puff pastry! I definitely need my gym to keep down the pounds…..I am also experimenting with Mediterranean cooking, as I find new recipes.

I learned how to make my own ice cream using cottage cheese. It is OK, but does have a heavy cottage cheese flavor. I made fresh cherry ice cream. I am sure using peppermint or other strong flavor would probably have less of the cheese flavor in the background. Seriously, there is cottage cheese everything!
Evil!!!
I discovered how to make air-popped kettle corn…..
😋

I made fresh date paste for my. organic shakes….

Circe’s Corner
Poor baby has had a tough time since we moved here. It all started with the giant mole that grew two weeks after we moved here. Her latest is pneumonia! I didn’t know dogs got pneumonia?!
She also had ripped up two claws and tore the nail from the meat. The vet had to cut them completely off and cauterize her toes. She had to be put under to do the surgery and this was when we went in for the pneumonia. Circe is a digger, unfortunately. She has to be supervised when in the back or else she starts destroying things. Odd thing is the claws have grown back. So, her feet look normal now.

After the pneumonia, she pulled a muscle in her leg and is now a tripod doggy. She runs around on three legs. I am surprised how fast she goes whole holding on leg up. She is getting better, but it is a slow heal.
We had mouse issues for a bit. I was not aware she would eat them if she caught them. She sat and waited for their little heads to pop out. We have gained control over the house again with Terminix and steel wool.

Sunsets….
I leave you with some sunsets to take with you…..
