The next. space…..
The office came next after I finished the Library. The colors were chosen from the colors in the rug. The office ended up being color blocked. As I start this post, I am still working on things in the office. I thought this room would be easier than the library, but it has turned into a long journey.
There was a huge hole in the wall where the previous owner just let the doorknob bust a gigantic hole in the wall.

A little note here. I started this post a long time ago. (almost a year) I thought I would be able to post it, but the roof was still leaking and ruined part of my remodel.
🥴
Ok, so I begin again. I have three things I am finishing/redoing and will post this soon….hopefully. It was next on my list, but I needed to study to get my tech license for HAM radio. I passed! Surprisingly…. 😳……! I read the study material in three days and was lucky I have an electrical engineering background. Part of the material was schematics and electrical wiring so I whizzed through that. Unfortunately, not much of that was on the test…lol. Figures! Still, I passed and will take the next license a bit slower. It does free me up to finish the office….Yay.

In the beginning…..

The walls were a mess and there was a massive hole in the wall behind the door. Again, no door stop. I prepped, primed, taped, patched and sealed the walls.
Windows 🪟

You’ve seen this before in previous posts. All the windows in this house are just a disaster. Sanding, scraping, cleaning, bleaching, patching, sealing and removing old weird window remnants was the first order of business. I prepped all this and scraped, taped and sealed the windows. It was ready for when I got to the trim. I always do trim last.
Interesting finds……
So, instead of door stopper, they put in some strange jam at the top back side of the door. The function seems to be to make a hole in the trim. ???
The walls had drip marks from the leaky roof. Unfortunately, I painted thinking the fix I paid a company to make worked. It did not. So, it leaked all over my painted walls and door.
The plank flooring was actually the sub-floor. They removed some really tragic ice blue shag carpet. (what were they thinking when they invented shag carpet?) They left the carpet nails and side board, which I promptly cut my feet repeatedly by stepping on these. There was some massive space between the boards, but not enough to use the rope method to seal between the boards. I ended up having to do a soft resurface of the whole floor. I had to get wood putty and seal between ALL the boards. This took time as my knees didn’t want to be cramped for 8-10 hours at a stretch. I should have got one of those garden mat things. The ones that look like boogy boards for cats.

This is how I went about…..I was working on the office and the Kitchen Nook at this time. They were putting in my fence and crazy Kermit was trying to figure out how electricity works. He is the local contractor who hooked up my generator to blow my house up….another story……another time…….
I did do the floor and it looks a 1000 times better. I am unsure, but down the road if I am still here, I will put down wood flooring over it. Something nice. This looks good, but it is actually the sub floor. It is a custom wood home so everything is made from the trees on this property.
I started with the far wall that is the blue wall. It just felt good to get some color in there. I pulled the three colors from the carpet and did color blocking to add some dimension to the room. It actually opened it up and makes it feel more spacious. It is lovely room for an office.

It looks out on the little valley and up on the right is a tree filled hill. There are these giant fushia flowers that bloom off some kind of tree/bush on the side that fill the window with bright color in the spring.
It is on the north side so it is a dark room. It gets more light in the winter months than summer. It is a tomb in the summer. That is ok as I work in there and it is less light on the monitors. It is good for imaging.

The next two walls were the wall to the right of the blue wall and the next one over. They are a warm stone color. The last wall is a soft gray color that paired well with the other two colors.

The ceiling fan was just on a plug stapled to the beam and wall. I had a junction box installed and conduit put in to hard wire the fan. It is much safer now and looks professional.

The details include door knobs, floor vent and wall plates.

I just have a few things still left to do, but I feel it is done enough so I can work in here now. In fact, I am posting this from my office.

Now four rooms are finished. Time to start on a new room…….
