When I got to Lincoln Nebraska I was routed (by my nav system) through the town on Route 2. This was a small two lane road through the city traffic. I wasn’t sure why my system chose this route. After leaving Lincoln, I went through Idaho for a blink and then I was in Missouri. Again, I ended up on back roads. It didn’t seem like a shorter route, but it was beautiful. All two-lane roads on roller-coaster hills. It was beautiful, simply beautiful. They had a ton of windmills and perfect picturesque houses and farms. It had an almost New England feel to the place. I went through a couple of tiny towns and then ended at a detour.
After that it was just highway till I got to Kansas City.
I was dog tired when I got to Kansas City. It was hot and there was so much traffic, like being in Sacramento at rush hour. I found out all the rooms were booked. There was some sporting event going on and everything was taken. So, we hopped back in the car and drove on down the road. Just outside Kansas City, about 30 minutes, there was a place. It was just a hotel, gas station and a subway. It was the Bates Motel in Missouri.
I keep saying I am going to Kansas in the video, but it is actually Kentucky that I wanted to make by nightfall. I headed to Mt. Vernon, Illnois and then on to Kentucky. I didn’t make it to Kentucky….I ended up in a blink of a town in Illnois…..more on that in the next post.
