Week Three

Wow, the days are flying by…. Ok, I conquered the mower and got the lawn mowed. Now I am raking and removing the clippings so I can mow again…

🙂 It was just too long to leave big clumps of clippings on the grass. I trimmed up the the tulip trees and need to get the weed eater going to clean things up. It is a nice lawn and a beautiful area. I can’t wait to see fall when all the leaves change color.

It has been a busy week. The bee man came and cleared all the nests around the house and in the shed. And a brave bee man he is going into that shed with three wasps nests….I had this vision of bees streaming out of the shed and heading angrily towards me.

I am putting in a video walk through (actually 3) of the house empty (mostly) because the movers came on Saturday and loaded everything up. The driver is from the Ukraine and he kept saying, “it is just like Tetris!” I must say it was a good job of stacking. I was excited to get my things. I now have clothes and shoes! (I have got to take the camera off wide angle)

AFTER THE MOVERS

What a feat it was getting the semi into the driveway. When Vlad called and said he was here I went outside and his truck was on the two lane road out front. I never thought about the fact that my driveway is a 90 degree turn from the road :-0 Wow, what a great driver, he maneuvered into the long driveway across from mine and actually backed into the driveway. It was lucky that the gravel road was there otherwise he would be unloading from the street…Amazing driving skills though, really. He stayed in my driveway overnight till the unload crew came the next morning. I got a shot of the truck from the downstairs through the screen. Probably should have just gone outside….

Ok, so I have my furniture, the lawn is mowed, bees are cleared and we had a thunder storm that was so nice. It just stormed, felt so good.

For those in California, this is what rain looks like… 😉

I made my first quiche here, which was interesting since I don’t have any bowls yet.

I found my duck boots, which from the rain above looks like I will need. I did get some digging around for necessary items and found many a useful thing.

Circe got some new jewelry…. This was inspired by her last escapade into the forest. This way all her info and address is on the tag.

I left the movers who loaded my things in California unsupervised and it seems they grabbed all sorts of things they were not supposed to load. I haven’t a clue where they found this hawk kite. Frankly, I have never seen this before. It must be Kevin’s from a long time ago. I thought it was a good critter deterrent for the front porch. It is interesting finding all sorts of strange items that I have never seen before….

Oh, at dusk, I saw fireflies! I was so excited. I took some video from inside, but it is hard to see. I will go outside this week and get a some images of these, it is so cool seeing little flashes of light everywhere. At first, I thought I was having some kind of episode, but then I remembered they have fireflies here.

All in all, I am slowly getting settled in. Next week is full of all the myriad things you have to do when you move to a new area. I am getting my car serviced, new driver license, car registration, look up doctors and make a journey into Charlottesville to actually go to a real store!

I am also hoping to get in some exploring in the woods. …..
