Entrenched in October…

Well, seems we are living at the stray animal crossroads here….. This old beagle just cracks me up. He waddles so slowly around the yard.

Old Beagle Walk…..hahahahaha

Have you ever had one of those weeks when you feel like the universe just doesn’t like you?!

The week starts with the return of a slow leak in my right front tire. We will get back to this later….. One of my concerns since I moved here has been the stability of the house I am renting. Because I am renting for a “short” term, I have taken the attitude that as long as I can get by, I am ok with whatever issue appears. Seems I am being tested on this…..

My landlord is totally ignoring my request for a CO2 meter to make sure the rusty, dusty, smoky smelling heater isn’t poisoning me. It is like shouting into an empty well…. Ok, I will just get one myself. I decided to not get twisted out of shape about the small things. I can get one myself and put it up.

Uh oh, a couple of wall plugs just stopped working. I do not know why, but they do not have any more juice. Off to the wall panel….. As you can see, it is a frightening thing to behold! I looked for something that looks like it was off, but they appeared to be where they were supposed to be…

Ok, I just have fewer wall plugs. I can live with this, life isn’t over.

We won’t even talk about the Psycho bathroom light, which makes one wonder about the wiring…..What is even more interesting is that there are two of these lights and they alternate which one is doing the epileptic flashing. Only one does this at a time….???

So, when my wonderful new porch lights blew, I was concerned. It turned out to be a fuse in the light string, but why did the electric line surge in the first place…..? Oh well, I have my lights back so I decided to just be thankful for that.

There are two sinks in the master bath and one is as wonky as it gets. (Check out the handles)

The actual handles are not physically connected or sealed onto the counter. This makes makes them wobble about and turning on and off is an interesting experience. Using them leaves the faucet leaking because you have no real control over the handles. In the beginning, I eventually got the faucet off. No worries, I have two sinks and the other one actually turns off even though they do move around a bit.

Opps! I unthinkingly used this sink and now I cannot get it to stop dripping….

Ok, still taking life as it comes trying to keep a good attitude.

The lawn mower decided to quit….
One of my security cameras decided to not work for a few days….
Circe had an odd incident in the upstairs bedroom????
I have a fruit fly invasion in my kitchen….
On stair step on the back porch decided to become like rubber…

….I am sure everyone has had challenging weeks like this.

Back to the tire. I had to keep putting in air everyday to my tire as it would leak about 10 lbs overnight. After an appointment in Charlottesville, the tire pressure was down six pounds. Thinking this is not safe to drive on, I went on over to the dealership. I ordered a new tire and went on home where the next morning I woke to a flat tire.

So, I arranged for a rental at the dealership and called AAA. I just assumed this would be a simple affair. Not so, it took continuous calls to AAA (which is an odessey on its own as they kept transferring me to CA because of my phone number!) It took all day to get the driver out here. The guy at the tow company with a heavy country twang just kept saying the driver was four minutes out…. I was a bit frantic as the guy at Subaru was waiting for me to get there to give me the rental car. He was only going to be there till 6pm, which was over the time he was supposed to leave. I started in the morning and the guy FINALLY got here at 5 pm. Of course, I had to drive recklessly on a tire with a hole to get to the dealership three minutes before they closed!

Of course, I came off like a wild woman as I was still in my smelly gym clothes and had that wild anxious look you get when you spend all day running against an insurmountable object…..lol

I got my rental car and realized this is an important lesson. The reason I was so crazed about getting the car is that I am a ways from anywhere. Now I know that if there is a crises, I need to have some options. Something to think on when looking at homes.

It really is hard to be Zen when being pelted by life coming at you at an angle.

Speaking of being pelted, the forest seems to be shedding these acorns falling like rain. My yard is filled with them. It is like walking on marbles. They also pelt me when I am running. At first, I thought the squirrels were throwing things at me. Then I noticed this sound that was like rain in the woods.

Those are the highlights of my week. There were other odd bits here and there, but one thing is for certain–the universe is pissed off at me! In my defense, I have been taking deep breaths and telling myself these are not important things and the life around me is…..

With this in mind, I have been breathing in the beauty of fall all around me. It has actually taken my breath away at moments when the light is right and the colors deep and engaging. So, I leave you with these sights of fall. Especially for those of you who are not blessed with the signs of season’s change.

Whuff
….pud has a new chicken! 🙂
